Ilana Ackerman

    Professor Ilana Ackerman is a Deputy Director of the Musculoskeletal Health and Wiser Health Care Unit in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University. She is a musculoskeletal epidemiologist and health services researcher, and an experienced orthopaedic physiotherapist. Ilana’s research program (>140 publications) has focused on quantifying the current and likely future population burden of osteoarthritis and optimising outcome assessment after joint replacement surgery. Her impressive continuum of clinical and population-based studies has systematically documented the impacts of osteoarthritis on older and younger people.

    Ilana has made a major contribution to osteoarthritis policy and guideline development, including as an invited member of the expert groups that developed the Victorian Model of Care for Osteoarthritis, the Australian Clinical Care Standard for Osteoarthritis of the Knee, the National Strategic Action Plan for Arthritis, and the ICHOM Standard Set for Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis. She has been a musculoskeletal advisor to the Australian Burden of Disease Study and is a longstanding osteoarthritis expert for the Global Burden of Disease Study. Ilana is Principal Advisor to the Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry for their Patient-Reported Outcome Measures Program and is a member of the Australian Spine Registry Steering Committee.
