Dr, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, QLD

Dr Julie Adsett is a Physiotherapist and clinician researcher, based at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She has a keen interest in models of care which improve patient outcomes through participation in physical activity and exercise training programs. Her PhD studies investigated different models of exercise training for people with heart failure, with a particular emphasis on aquatic exercise training. More recently, her research has focused on addressing ward-based and organisational barriers to promote inpatient mobility in medical inpatients. Her vision is to create “active hospitals”, whereby staff and systems support a positive physical activity culture, which works towards reducing functional decline and ultimately improving clinical outcomes.

Julie is the recipient of a Metro North Clinician Research Fellowship. She is chair of the Queensland Heart Failure Exercise and Rehabilitation Network and is Co-coordinator of the HEART Online website, a website accessed by cardiac clinicians throughout Australia and internationally.
